Nuno Afonso Nuno Miguel Figueiredo Afonso (born 6 October 1974 in Oeiras, Lisbon) is a Portuguese retired footballer who played as a central defender. ==Football career== During his professional career, Afonso represented S.L. Benfica (1993–94, being part of the squad that won that season's national title), C.F. Os Belenenses (1994–95), S.C. Campomaiorense (1995–96), Vitória de Setúbal (1997–98), C.S. Marítimo (1998, 1999–2000), F.C. Paços de Ferreira (1999), C.D. Aves (2000–01) and U.D. Oliveirense (2001–02), having abroad stints with UD Salamanca (playing in only two matches in a 1997 second division promotion) and CD Díter Zafra (also in Spain), retiring at only 28. He was a member of the Portuguese team that reached fourth place at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Afonso also represented the nation at the 1993 FIFA World Youth Championship in Australia, in an eventual group stage exit (three losses).
